So far I’ve looked at the basic vampire couple and examined whether the supernatural are dedicated heterosexuals. It is a poor classification but, the simplest answer is no, because even males with females bend the rules to swap gender roles. Are vampires straight when they engage in any heterosexual couplings? Again this is also no. Not when vampires esteem the bite as the ultimate kiss. Add to this the way they share psychic sex, and we have no comparisons, so vampire sexuality remains unclassifiable.
Confused? If you were a vampire, you wouldn’t have a problem with sex. Vampires are never confused with it comes to seeking sex, indulging in sexual activity, or attaining sexual pleasure. There is so much we can learn from these sexy beasts if only we were willing to heed some vampire wisdom.
Now we’re straight about that (well, maybe not so), I’d like to look at how all this off-beat behavior affects vampire relationships. Even within the male-female couples, vampires form complicated bonds. Swapping sexual roles, while engaging in psychic sex, makes the relationships even more complex.
The Male, his Wife and their Lovers
Matrimony is anything but monogamy in the preternatural domain. Excluding cheating, the affairs of a vampire heart are a function of need as well as affection. Male vampires need love and secure this in vampire marriage. His wife is then a source of pure emotional love but he cannot rely on her to supply his more physical needs.
Beyond the sex, the vampire needs blood. Males usually do not hunt, and the wife status excludes the converted females from seeking human donors. The hunting females return to their collective gorged from the night feed, offer this first to the wife, and next to her husband. He wants only the hottest blood, and often relies on a favorite to ensure he gets the best flavored blood, fresh from the hunt.
His favorite is a female lover. Usually the male has several favorites because not every female hunts every night. A certain minimum of females will take turns to forage and satisfy the requirement of blood for the collective. To keep a favorite, the male must have permission for sex from his wife, and when his wife is sexually content, he makes his lovers happy to feed him.
So does his wife mind he has lovers? No, she’s got her own favorites. How she keeps them happy will be answered next time but for now, there are rules for the bad boy to follow. His permission to have fun comes with restrictions.
What A Male’s Gotta Do
The basic and most important rule is—the wife goes first. She receives his first sex, first thing after he rouses for the evening. But the rule applies to each and every time he has sex with a favorite. So between girls he returns to the wife. Sex with him after waking reestablishes the psychic link with her husband, and each sexual encounter reinforces this link. She does this to read his mind and “feel” the sex he has with others. He can’t return to his marriage bed at dawn and tell his wife the classic lie—”nothing much happened in the office today, dear.” She knows—everything!
The order he progresses through his list of favorites is determined by intimacy the couple share. The very intimate favorites expect quality sex from him and this often means swapping roles to add excitement. The primary sex with the wife set his sexual appetite, and this feeling of his wife is a turn-on for any vampire lover, but playing the girl changes his sexual attitude. He then takes this altered state to his wife.
Being male, controlling love, and playing the female role in sex, makes him psychically equivalent to his wife. He not only has a range of physical pleasures to satisfy his sexual addiction but his psychic signature gives him an unmatched sex appeal. As a male he is simply irresistible. Each lover enhances his sexual potential, and returning to his wife amplifies his sexual prowess.
By midnight he is just about the hottest item this side of the full moon and every female wants a piece of him. This means he’s invited to the feast, and consumes the tastiest blood available. And after the feeding frenzy? His only hope of coming back to earth is to couple with his wife and race the sun.
All this is made possible by having a few legal affairs and connecting with his feminine side. To think, he got to explore his sexuality without putting on a corset or wearing high heal shoes. Incidentally, if the male is unmarried then he can only hope to acquire favorites and build enough respect that the females will lust over him. If not, then he has to beg for food and pay with sex.
