The sex appeal of vampires comes from the illusive nature of these sexy beasts of the night. But it seems the more we find out about vampires, the more we want to know. We just can’t seem to satisfy our curiosity for what is the most erotic of our nightmares. I have already looked at how we are attracted to vampires, because they are like us, and we want to be more like them. Now its time to ask what part of vampires turn us on?

Fangs and Sex

Undoubtedly it is those extra-sized canine teeth that have us drooling for a pair. The fangs of the vampire are symbols of supernatural power, sexual potency, and immortality. They are the ultimate token of the mythological beyond the magical. Vampires use their fangs to take from us our blood, so the fangs are also the medium delivering the very essence of life.

The idea then of having a vampire bite our neck is erotic and sensual but considered by many writers as not sexual. I don’t know, because I cannot find a reason in the literature for the source of this concept. I presume the chaste property of the bite is somehow linked to the the action being limited to above the waistline.

In a contradictory way it may also be a denial of mixing pleasure with pain. The vampire bite is seen to derive only pain and therefore not delivering pleasure (sexual or otherwise) to the recipient (or the vampire for that matter). I can only guess. It seems fangs invading our veins is the only case of non-sexual penetration known to man.

But it does appear that the association with sex is in the foreplay of promising a bite. As long as the bite remains unfulfilled then the vampire and victim are both safe from sexual corruption. I doubt anyone bothered to ask a vampire how they feel about abstaining.

So, just I case I missed something crucial here, I’d like to examine a pair of fangs in action. This is how I see the erotic nature of vampire fangs.

The following section has been completely rewritten. I extend my gratitude to Everlost for his helpful discussion and inspiration.

Date with a Vampire

He stepped from the shadows and confidently approached me. I knew in an instant I beheld a presence greater than my own; a power so intangible, and frightening by the awe he inspired, yet not terrifying when I beckoned him to my side. One look, the slightest glance and I became his captive. He smiled, the separation of his lips revealing the glint of his fangs.

My heart jumped, the beat fluttering to accelerate and amplify throughout my body. My breathing strained with my lungs heavy in anticipation of his intention. I imagined what he wants of me or I hoped the visions in my mind were his doing, to direct me, so I obliged his every whim. The pleasure in his face suggested I pleased him so I blushed, but not in shame; no I watched his eyes explore my face and I feel privileged for him choosing me above all mortals.

With extended fingers, the vampire caressed my skin. Using a firm but gentle grip, he clasp me under the jawline, manipulating so to direct my head to the side. I follow his lead, to let my head tilt and make my neck taut. We embraced, so he supported my body, allowing my head to drop down, and maintain the stress on my neck.

He bent to me, and I closed my eyes so I can appreciate the sounds of his breathing across my neck. The changing tones of his breath suggest he tested the aroma of my blood, detecting in his deepening aspirations, how my blood rich with anticipation, now excited his palate. I gasped the moment lips brushed my skin. In slow, delicate circles, the vampire traced the arch of my vein exposed for his unrestricted access.

His lips pressed inquisitively, soft pinches to test the temper of my skin, as he explored my neck. I relaxed, closed my eyes expecting his preparative kiss, so the blood rushing to my head now intoxicated my mind. He pressed his lips firmly. My veins, flushed and engorged, provided a focus for his interest. The pressure he applied with his lips changed to a sensuous pull on the skin, causing the area to heat and numb. His kiss intensified, the working of his lips satisfactorily distracting, until he pushed to my neck.

A rush of heat sent spasms through my body, the tension at my neck intensified, and now I labored to breathe. My mind filled with the insatiable imagery of me reciprocating in this ultimate kiss. I pulled him closer, desperately clinging to him, as I pushed my body to release the tension he created.  My limbs trembled with their waning strength, and in my struggle I softly cried his name, if only to encourage him. I wasn’t ready, not yet, I needed him more.

My breaths shortened so much I could no longer draw air. I arched back in his embrace, the involuntary contortion setting my body into uncontrolled spasms. I screamed out my liberation. He held me firmly in his arms while I slowly relaxed but he stopped pushing on my neck. He kissed my skin and licked the wound he made. I watched him clean his mouth, and directed him to kiss my lips, so that I may partake of the pleasure with him.

I shivered in his embrace. It was but a brief encounter yet it proved so enervating. In my exhaustion, I collapsed in his hold. He reclined my weakened body, while I awaited his return to the bite without the subdued struggle of our first togetherness. The vampire leaned over me, and for a magical instant I stared into his eyes, their unfathomable depth encompassing the purity of a moonless night.

I awaited his lead, in my expectation for our lips to meet, because through the sharing of our lips, I can partake of the vampire essence from the very mouth that conveyed my life’s blood. His mouth relaxed, and now satisfied, I smiled. He faded, his opacity dissolved into the stillness of the night, when he returned to the shadows. Abandoned I might be, yes, but I did not cry for my lover’s desertion. I know I did not dream him, and come tomorrow night, I shall expect his return.

Bite and Sex

After this, I hope you will consider the sexual dimension of the vampire bite and the function of fangs that we have sadly lost in the 20th century. To fully appreciate the vampire, as originally created in 1700′s, we need to accept the vampire bite is erotic, enticing, and stimulating to the mind. It was once only suggested, but now we can admit, how the vampire invites us to participate in an unholy communion with them via their bite.

In my novel, blood and sex are inextricably linked through the feeding ritual of vital sex, and in the vampires hunting preferences. With the vampire fangs being erogenous zones, there is little the vampire prefers to do than bite with sexual pleasure.

Next time, I’ll examine  more of the sexual nature of vampire behavior.
