Last time I revealed how the love capacity of human beings, that self same capacity found in each and every one of us, transforms into the ultimate power used by immortals in the supernatural world. But what is this love we have that makes us weak in the knees, makes our tummies upset, makes us dizzy in the head, and drives us crazy—how does this thing we identify with love manage to give vampires power over every force of nature?
First thing, we need to reconcile that much of what we call love the vampires identify with sex. The essence of love for humans and vampires is exactly the same, but the definition changes. If we’re sick in the heart and maddened by the need to be with someone, the vampires would call this and other physical symptoms part of the sexual drive, not part of pure love. By separating love completely from sex and knowing the extent of pure emotional love, the vampires harness this power for their own ends. If the vampire loves absolutely, they use love to create beauty, or if the vampire is evil, they can twist love to destroy everything in their path. Love to vampires is a force without limitations.
When we think of love without limits, we think of true love or perfect love. These descriptions seem to be part of the problem of attaining love, where the ideal is impossible, so the achievement of the impossible is also impossible. Vampires see it all as part of love but freed from the physical to make love a true emotion.
Unconditional love
The ultimate love sought by human beings in our songs and in our literature is the love without any conditions. So why can’t we find it and keep it? The vampires claim us humans don’t know the difference between love and sex and this is the cause of our unhappiness. Because vampires make a firm distinction between love and sex, and never mix the two concepts, they have no difficulty recognizing love and cultivating it. In their writings concerning love, the vampires admit the problems of confusing the sensations of sexual attraction with the emotionally charged feelings of love. To guide the future generations of vampires, their manuals of love have some defining points credited to pure emotional love to help the reader identify it.
Love is in the heart.
- We claim to already know this fact but that doesn’t stop us from connecting the heart with the mind, and the mind with the rest of the body, and creating total confusion.
Love starts inside.
- Vampires believe in self-love, not conceit, where you are content with yourself especially emotionally.
Love is not physical.
- Beyond being an emotion, love is also not derived from the physical in the vampire world.
- Vampires cannot see the body so they don’t fall in love with physical beauty.
Love is not sexual.
- For vampires, there is no absolute connection between love and sex.
- Faithfulness in love also has nothing to do with sexual infidelity.
- Bad sex does not equal bad love.
Love has no cost.
- Love is not required to be reciprocated or matched in the pair.
- We expect to be loved and we also expect love to be mutual.
- Vampires believe such demands actually destroy any possibility of cultivating love that still requires nurturing.
- If the love is not equal or shared then let it grow.
Love needs space.
- For vampires, love needs room to breathe and function.
- Restricting or over-protecting love actually causes it to die and once destroyed, it usually cannot reestablish.
- Insecurities are the quickest way to smoother love.
Love knows not time.
- We like to see love as developing over time, growing old together is romantic, and giving love a chance means taking time to accomplish this.
- Vampires believe love is eternal and does not grow simply because the clock has progressed.
- Waiting for love is futile.
Love grows in the words of lovers.
- While we like to think love grows in a relationship, because the pair are dedicated and together, vampires believe the couple must communicate their love in order to culture it.
- To encourage love they have a language of love.
These are but a few of the main characteristics attributed to vampire love. Because love is very different in definition to vampires, next time I will explain the concept of vampire love by giving more detail on the factors that makes love vampire style so pure and unconditional.
